Distance traveled

This is a summary of point-to-point distances, excluding side trips such as the National Air and Space Museum annex and Walden Pond. These values are not strictly accurate, because I have ignored the fact that I arrived at and departed from New York City at two different places: the Port Authority Bus Terminal in Midtown and Chinatown farther south, respectively.

One-way cross-country distance

If I consider the beginning of my trip east to be my departure from Walla Walla College in March, then my trip can be said to have spanned almost the entire continental United States. Between Walla Walla, WA and Boston, MA, I passed through Boulder, CO and Santa Fe, NM before reaching Norman, OK, from which my route proceeds as described above. The total distance for this route is 3,976 miles or 6,399 kilometers.

States encountered

The following is a complete list of states encountered during my trip, along with the District of Columbia. States encountered multiple times (such as New Jersey and Oklahoma) are listed only once. States encountered for the first time within memory are italicized. Flag icons courtesy Wikipedia.

Looking at a map, it appears inevitable that I would have to have passed through West Virginia between Ohio and Pennsylvania in 1993. But I don't remember it, so I won't count it.
