Before I left for my epic trip to Rome, I had a few goals to accomplish in the days of Christmas break which preceded my departure. One of these was to fire off rockets, since, for one reason or another, I had not done that for over two months. Fortunately, I was able to drum up interest for the launch from my father and brother, who attended. Since we couldn't find a field big enough in which to launch the enormous Lone Star, we resorted to using the traditional WAEC Space Harbor (my neighborhood park) as the test range. The first flight was XW-1, on a C6-3. After the second try (nothing ever flies on the first try), it took off into the air, streaking aloft and corkscrewing just before ejection. This flight was much more successful than its only other launch, in which it was vastly underpowered on an A8-3. The second was my new 1/96 scale Mercury-Redstone, a conversion of a Delta 7 productions static model into a flying rocket. This flight was highly successful. The rocket sustained only a slight bit of damage on landing (the paper escape tower broke off). It was a simple manner to replace. I returned home satisfied, and awaited, with high anticipation, my departure from Rome, in just three days. The trip more than exceeded my expectations. shot and encoded by Jaeger high quality version - 6465 kb lite version - 4699 kb |
